Butterflies

We received these wonderful caterpillars on the coldest day of the year. The one day in Temple that temperatures stayed below freezing all day. The mail man failed to notice the fragile Live animals label on the box and left in in our community mailbox for hours before we got it. We were hoping at least one would be alive. All but one made it to the chrysalis stage, and this is a video of us watching one of them breakout and become a butterfly. Unfortunately we caught the one butterfly on video that will probably not make it. In the video you will hear a loud slap as the butterfly hits the bottom of the cage. We have since found a blood trail all over the cage. I hope he makes it. He was butterfly #5 of 9 to emerge. He is the only one we have actually witnessed coming out. All other times we have been away from home and missed it.

Sorry about the quality of this video. It was taken through the netting of the butterfly cage.
