Robert had planned on taking Labor day weekend as one of his few holidays off this year, and when our Bollinger Family reunion got canceled we were bummed. The thing we love most about visiting Johnson City is the fact that the boys can roam around outside pretty safely and do boy things. We stumbled across these Hideaway Cabins over spring break this year, when we were looking for fun things to do with the boys, and this seemed like the perfect time to do it. We rented this cabin which had one bed room and then a loft area for the boys and had a blast.
Our first morning there we decided to head out and explore the property. We didn't get too far away from the cabin when we found this dried up pond. We allowed the boys to run around in it along the edges. Then Jon decided it would be fun to run and jump across the middle. Bad idea, he sunk in past his knees. I managed to get him out, but not his shoes. I made the mistake of going back for the shoes and I got too close and fell in myself. Now I know what quick sand feels like. I was really stuck and it was really stinky stuff I was stuck in. Needless to say that was the end of our exploring that morning. We had to drive 30 minutes into Granbury to buy new shoes to finish our explorations.
Jon was upset. I hope he is able to laugh about this one day!
We played lots of board games. The boys really impressed me with their math skills. Luke just started the 1st grade and was able to count out money owed, and make change.
Jon recently started guitar lessons and we brought his guitar out to the cabin to practice. He is doing really well. Robert is mooching off the lessons and learning the cords along with Jon.
One of the fun adventures there is a scavenger hunt. There are several clues hidden on the property that have hidden letters that you have to decode, to find out who robbed the bank.
We had to walk into the horse pasture to find the last clue. The horses wanted to follow us out as we left. They were very friendly.
The boys took turns going into the jail. The goats were more than happy to follow them in.
In the end it was Butch and Sundance the Pigs who stole the money. That is probably why Butch is no longer there grazing and now waiting in the freezer to be eaten.
More games including: Life, Clue and Yahtzee
The boys finally got to go "Archering"! That is what they called it. They picked it up pretty quickly and did a good job.
Robert even rented a bow and played along.
I tried out Jon's little bow, and it was a lot of fun.
You start out in the practice area aiming at bales of hay. Once you are confident you move on to 3d targets,
Luke's first kill
Robert shot this guy right through the nostril. We had a good laugh about it.
Sitting on the front porch swing at the cabin. We brought the tripod so we could get a picture together as a family.
Silly pose

Where is this? Looks like lots of fun - you need to make a list of fun places to visit because you seem to find a lot of them!! Lucky boys!
